I’m gonna hafta say that the San Mateo County one isn’t really mangled. It’s a city hall or something, so they’re trying to be formal and have Latin-esque text. In Latin, the letter U was written like “V”. So for example, you would have “E PLURIBVS VNVM”
And I return after 2 years of soul-searching to refute Anon’s statement! (Actually, I’ve just stumbled on this again.)
It’s $8 at 3.5 hours because it is assumable that the fee ticks over at the beginning of each period. So if you park for 30 minutes, you pay $1. You still pay $1 if you park for 20, 10 or 5 minutes.
Hence, your fee increases to $8 at 3 hours and 1 second and increases to $10 at 4 hours and 1 second.
Hang on. I’ve reread Anon’s post, and he/she says that it should be $10 at 3.5 hours. That really doesn’t look right.
Let’s see if I can make it clearer. Parking fees are $2 per hour regardless of how long you park (up to a max of $16 a day). However, if you park less than 3 hours, you are charged in 30 minute increments instead of 1 hour increments.
Here’s an example:
Fred parks for 2 hours and 10 minutes. He pays (2×2x1 + 1 =) $5. Barney parks for 1 hour longer than Fred. Since it’s $2/h, Barney should have to pay (5 + 2 =) $7, right? Actually, no: He pays $6 for the first 3 hours and another $2 for the next 10 minutes for a total of $8.

You’re right - it’s not mangled, it’s pompous.

The sign “No adults unless accompanied by children” is designed to keep pervs out of places where children play. I see that sign all over the place.

The parking one actually makes sense.
Consider the following:
You park for…You pay
———————-
30 min……….$1
1 h………….$2
1.5 h………..$3
2 h………….$4
2.5 h………..$5
3 h………….$6
3.5 h………..$8
4 h………….$8
4.5 h………..$10
And so on and so forth.
Bah. Can’t get it to format right.

The “Classics” one… well, they are actually classic gay porn flicks from the late 70s and early 80s…

Nice ones! Comment about the Jesus/Fred Flintstone pic.
Its quite funny, but I do suspect the guy owning the van is named Jesus (as is common in Latin America)
Keep up the great fun and stuff on this site!

Your calculation is WRONG!!
At “3.5 h………..$10″ because it says “$2 per hour thereafter”.
SO, it is still $2/hour up to a maximum of $16/day. Get it??
SO, if you gonna be parking greater than or equal to 8 hours, then you should consider buying a day pass for $16.
