impending aneurysm

at GeoCaching.com, someone gives a general location, then a puzzle to find exactly where a box of goodies is hidden nearby. this puzzle is off the charts, including the following advice:
"2. For good accuracy, use an ellipsoid earth model."

and the feedback from a successful prospector:
"Thanks for the very challenging puzzle - there was lots of things I had to learn to solve this. My understanding of the algorithms behind GPS receivers, TDOA, the mechanism used to know the locations of cellphones when you call 911, etc..."
